Another year is upon us with many exciting plans for 2017. This year, we are proud to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the legendary Krugerrand, the most widely traded and most recognized gold bullion coin in the world. The Krugerrand was the world’s first 1oz legal tender coin to contain one troy ounce of pure gold when it was struck for the first time on the 3rd of July 1967, and in 2017 we commemorate 50 years since its introduction. In 2017, we will also be bringing you exciting new products which commemorate significant innovations, people and flora and fauna. We have launched the 2017 Crown and Tickey, which under the theme South African Inventions, celebrates the 50th anniversary of the first successful human-to-human heart transplant. This incredible milestone was performed by a team of surgeons led by Dr Christiaan Neethling Barnard, in the Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town on 3 December 1967.

| The Krugerrand’s golden jubilee |

The Krugerrand’s golden jubilee celebrations kicked off at the annual World Money Fair in Berlin on 3 – 5 February 2017. In keeping with bullion coin trends globally (almost all major gold bullion coins have introduced a silver counterpart), we have now introduced a silver Krugerrand. This long-awaited coin, together with the new Platinum Krugerrand where very well-received at the World Money Fair and sold out on the first day. |
