This 2 oz coin is introduced into the Krugerrand family for the first time in 2018; more than half a century after the striking of the first Krugerrand which embodies the history of the discovery of gold in South Africa and has also become the symbol of South Africa’s proud numismatic heritage.
The reverse on the 2018 2oz Krugerrand is common to all denominations and metals in the Krugerrand series. It features South Africa’s national animal, the springbok, as designed and engraved by sculptor Coert Steynberg, the year ‘2018’, with the word “Krugerrand” above the animal and the gold content below.
