Held at the Mall of Africa between 30 October and 3 November 2019, the Johannesburg International Flower Show offered flower enthusiasts and general visitors a chance to admire and purchase the South African Mint’s magnificent colour coins while they enjoyed the beauty of the spring season and all its flora.
The Krugerrand legacy continues with a new size in the silver range. The 2020 2oz silver Krugerrand makes its debut this month, boasting the illustrious craftsmanship and quality the Krugerrand brand is reputed for.
This follows the popularity of the first ever 22ct gold 2oz Krugerrand launched in 2018.

The International Association of Currency Affairs (IACA) Excellence in Currency Awards promote and recognise excellence in banknote and coin production, processing, management and distribution.
At the Reconnaissance Coin Conference this year, the South African Reserve Bank and the South African Mint were honoured with the runner-up award for the Best New Commemorative or Test Circulating Coin.
The 2018 R5 commemorative circulation coin celebrating the centenary year of the birth of global icon and former South African President, Nelson Mandela, was recognised for its innovative design and world class security features.
Following the success of the SA25 coin series commemorating ‘25 Years of South Africa’s Constitutional Democracy’, the South African Mint further invited members of the public to enter designs for the reverse of a new R2 coin to be issued in 2020, depicting any of the remaining 22 rights and freedoms in the South African Bill of Rights.
Entries for this competition are now officially closed, and the tough job of testing and shortlisting is underway. The winning design will be announced in due course, after the regular coin approval process by the South African Reserve Bank.
