COVID-19 Update from the Managing Director
Kindly note that our collectable coins sales department, including our coin shop and museum remain closed until further notice.
On the 27 March 2020, our country entered into a 21 – day lockdown, which was extended to five-weeks, as government sought to flatten the COVID-19 curve. Under the national lockdown, the South African Mint was limited to essential services – which is the production of circulation coins.
As the South African Mint, we are in full support of the actions taken by government to curb the spread of COVID19. Your safety, and that of our employees, remains our number one priority and was the leading motivator for the decision to close Coin world and the museum.
Following the President’s lifting of the national lockdown from 1 May 2020 and the implementation of the level 4 risk adjusted strategy and regulations under the Disaster Management Act, the SA Mint has decided to continue with its mitigation strategy of limiting operations to the production of essential circulation coins.
We continue to monitor the rapidly evolving situation closely and will keep you informed of any developments and directives during this period.
Thank you for your patience and continued patronage .Keep observing physical distancing and hygiene protocols. Together we can flatten the curve
Stay safe. Stay healthy. Stay strong. Stay positive.
Yours Faithfully,
Honey Mamabolo
Managing Director
