Anxiety and excitement were high at Olievenhoutbosch Secondary School as we awarded the 6th recipient of the South African Mint Bursary on 15 January 2020.
The South African Mint is passionate about education, and since 2015, we have partnered with the school to encourage the learners to do their best as well as ensure that finances do not hinder the potential of our future leaders. This partnership offers us the opportunity to provide a bursary to the top matriculant of the school annually.
18 year old recipient Tshenollo Mokwana matriculated with four distinctions, and has been accepted to pursue a BSc degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Cape Town. We wish him all the best in his studies
We kick off the year at the revered World Money Fair in Berlin, from 31 January to 2 February 2020. This three-day event is an international trade fair of great significance as it not only invites respected exhibitors and experts, but is the meeting place between enthusiasts and collectors. It affords us the opportunity to showcase our new releases as well as market and sell our full range of products directly to international customers.
The Krugerrand is the first ounce-denominated gold coin in the world to a carry legal tender status, meaning that it can be exchanged for goods or services. It was minted for the first time in 1967 with the aim of putting gold into the hand of the man on the street, and has since become the most internationally recognisable and widely traded gold coins in the world.
The 2020 Krugerrand range includes the 2oz, 1oz, ½oz, ¼oz, 1/10oz and 1/20oz 22ct gold coins, plus the 1oz fine silver coin first introduced in 2017 as part of the jubilee celebrations of the Krugerrand. Also included in this year’s range is the new 2oz fine silver coin created following the successful launch of the 2oz gold coin.
